Ivan Koniar

Ivan Koniar works at the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies at the Catholic University in Ruzomberok. His main area of interest is normative thinking about war, especially just war theory and the moral problems of new military technologies and modern war conflicts. He is currently working on issues of moral responsibility for lethal autonomous weapons and the autonomy of artificial agents.


His published works examine the development of the just war tradition, the broad reflection on the justification of war, the current debate on the foundation of the morality of war, and the problem of responsibility for learning military robots. These topics are reflected in one monograph (2011) and several studies. Ivan completed research stays at the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO), University of Glasgow and get a scholarship at the Nanovic Institute for European Studies at the University of Notre Dame. He was also the coordinator and lecturer of the Jean Monnet Module Ukrainian Crisis: A Challenge for European Integration and teaches courses on modern warfare and political theory. He is currently the Vice-Dean for Education at the Faculty of Arts, CU in Ruzomberok.
